We have managed to secure the disused city centre site at King’s Stables Road for a second year running, with our 2016 festival taking place from Friday 27th May – Saturday 4th June.
The site consists of over forty unusual rooms and spaces, clustered around a 80 metre long cobbled courtyard. Last year the site was transformed into art installation spaces, two theatres, two live music venues, a cinema and three bars, and was used to showcase some of the most exciting new talent emerging in Scotland.
The developers who are buying the site are continuing to progress their planning application for the site, but we found out there was a chance to bring the site to life for the very last time, to once again take over the space with a wide variety of upcoming Scottish artists.
“At the time of this year’s festival” said David Martin, Hidden Door Creative Director, “we never thought this would be an option as we were led to believe the site would be undergoing development shortly after we moved out. But when we were told it would still be available, we obviously leaped at the chance. It’s such a fantastic venue, and the opportunity to use it one last time is too good to pass up.”
The 2016 event will feature forty new artists, six nights of live music, twelve theatre companies, plus programmes of live poetry and film. As well as this, it will also feature a series of talks and discussion events on issues surrounding the development of city centre sites like King’s Stables Road.
